There are two big catering opportunities this February
Saturday 14th February – St Valentine’s Day
Because Valentines Day falls on a Saturday it’s likely to be a more notable event than when it falls on a weekday.
Tuesday 17th February – The Chinese Year of the Horse begins
What an opportunity for all restaurateurs to celebrate with and for their clientele.
Theme Nights
I’m sure that restaurants and hotels in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, can make a lot from these dates.
Imagine the local news coverage that could be had from the headlines:- “Valentine’s Day Evenings” and “The Year of the Horse begins here”.
The opportunities are there and will generate attention and hopefully an increase in your clientele.
So, now is the time to get ready
Front of House for Valentine’s Day
Developing an overall theme of love and romance throughout the restaurant.
Perhaps you could add a small token to each table, perhaps a starter on the house, and then present the bill with a Valentines Card of best wishes and a discount token for their next meal with you.
Front of House for the Chinese New Year
Develop an overall theme in the restaurant with red lanterns throughout and have your waiting staff wearing something red.
When you present the bill include a small red envelop with a discount token for their next meal with you, that should go down very well.
Behind the Scenes
Your kitchen will have to be in tip-top condition for these two events, so, to help you, here’s a list of things to check, in no particular order: –
- The air handling system – is it working properly?
When was the last time you checked it?
As you know, when air is extracted from a commercial kitchen, fresh air needs to be drawn in from outside to maintain an air balance and with the doors and windows closed in the winter this can be a challenge.
If you’re unsure whether the air balance is right call 01733 230378 and talk to us at CK Direct. We are a well trusted industry supplier, with over 24 years’ experience and have a complete range of units for extraction and air input. - Ventilation and Extraction systems, including recirculation systems.
Are they working well? - Stainless steel fabrications – do you need that extra table or shelf?
- Gas interlocks – CK Direct stock the Merlin Range.
- Environmental Products – odour control, sanitisation products for cleaning the restaurant tables and the work surfaces in the kitchen.
- Lighting – during the darker months, good lighting is essential in a kitchen. So if you have a flicker or two we can solve the issue.
