Every year, the UK’s restaurants are awarded points by the editors of the Good Food Guide, the results of which are published in the guide. Scores are based on good food and service and are marked out of ten. Many people all over the UK refer to the Good Food Guide when deciding to try out new restaurants; as such, the awards are very important to those in the business. L’Enclume is a French style restaurant in Cartmel, Cumbria, and it has two Michelin stars. It was awarded 10 out of 10 in the 2014 edition of the Good Food Guide. The restaurant was opened in 2003 by Penny Tapsell and Simon Rogan, who trained as a chef under Marco Pierre White. Rogan has his own farm, which supplies all the food to the restaurant.
Also scoring a maximum 10 out of 10 on the Good Food Guide, The Fat Duck is owned and run by celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal. The restaurant is located in Bray, Berkshire and has been open since 1995. It became the fastest restaurant to receive three Michelin stars when it was awarded the first in 1999, the second in 2002, and the third in 2004. The Fat Duck is best known for its tasting menu, which consists of fourteen different courses.
For the first time in fifteen years, three restaurants were awarded full marks by the Good Food Guide and the third restaurant to do so was Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London. The restaurant is owned and run by Gordon Ramsay and was opened in 1998. It has three Michelin stars and head chef Clare Smyth was the first female chef to be awarded 10 marks for fifteen years.
Scoring nine out of ten, Restaurant Nathan Outlaw can be found in Rock, Cornwall, and it has two Michelin stars. It is owned and run by Nathan Outlaw and is the only seafood restaurant in the UK to have been awarded a Michelin star. The restaurant was previously located in Fowey (from 2007 to 2009) but moved to its current premises in Rock in 2010.
Hibiscus is in London and is owned and run by Claude Bosi. The restaurant was previously located in Ludlow but moved to its current location in 2007. As well as having two Michelin stars, Hibiscus has been awarded AA Rosettes five times and has featured in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list since 2010. It received nine out of ten in the 2014 Good Food Guide edition.
Jason Atherton runs Pollen Street Social in London, which was his first restaurant in the UK. The restaurant opened in 2011, and it was awarded its Michelin star within one year of opening. It received nine out of ten in the latest edition of the Good Food Guide.
Restaurant Sat Bains is located in Nottingham and is owned and run by British chef Satwant Singh Bains, or Sat Bains, as he is more commonly known. The restaurant opened in 2002 and was Nottingham’s first restaurant to win a Michelin star when it did so in 2003. The restaurant was awarded a second Michelin star in 2011 and has five AA Rosettes as well. In the 2014 edition of the Good Food Guide, Restaurant Sat Bains was awarded nine out of ten.
The Square is found in London and has been open since 1991. Philip Howard is the co-owner and chef, and the restaurant has had two Michelin stars since 1998. It was awarded eight out of ten in the 2014 edition of the Good Food Guide.
Le Champignon Sauvage is a Michelin starred restaurant in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and is run by husband and wife team David and Helen Everitt-Matthias. The restaurant has been open since 1987 and has two Michelin stars and four AA Rosettes. It received an 8 out of 10 rating in the 2014 Good Food Guide.
Located in Notting Hill, London, The Ledbury is the sister restaurant of The Square and has been open since 2005. It is run by head chef Brett Graham and has two Michelin stars. Like its sister restaurant, The Ledbury also scored an 8 out of 10 with the Good Food Guide.
Restaurant Andrew Fairlie can be found at the Gleneagles resort in Tayside, Scotland, and it is owned and run by Scottish chef Andrew Fairlie. The restaurant has two Michelin stars and is the only restaurant in Scotland to have this honour. The 2014 edition of the Good Food Guide saw Restaurant Andrew Fairlie score eight out of ten.
Midsummer House is a Michelin starred restaurant in Cambridge, and it is run by Daniel Clifford. The restaurant has been awarded two Michelin stars and five AA Rosettes. It scored eight out of ten in the 2014 edition of the Good Food Guide.
