We all know the firework night chant, remember, remember. This year it can be a reminder for us that Christmas Day and all the festivities that go with it are only 7 weeks away. Yes only 7 whole weeks!

So, you need to ensure that your establishment is totally ready

  • Advertise your venue’s seasonal menus.
  • Promote individual festive days – Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, New Years eve.
  • Decorate the restaurant, take photos and promote it.
  • Decorate your staff, with, say, a sprig of holly, or a piece of tinsel.
  • Most important of all ensure that your kitchen is properly equipped to be able to deliver meals efficiently and promptly.

Advertise your venue’s seasonal menus

A splash in your local newspaper and on the local radio could boost your bookings considerably. Leaflet drops detailing your special festive menus will promote the special events and widen your catchment area.

Promote each festive day

Special seasonal menus at fixed prices will do more than promote they will cut your costs because on those nights the menu will be standardised.

Advertise that clients can book and order their meal online; this will save having to take orders when clients have arrived and so means courses are delivered more promptly and you staff can spend a little more time with each client.

Christmas decorations and promotions

Why not get into the spirit of Christmas and decorate the restaurant. Perhaps a Christmas tree in the foyer and then decorations around the walls. Oh, and don’t forget a cracker for each client.

If you take photos, you can then put these into the local papers and get another splash of promotion.

Immaculate service with a sprig of holly

If all client serving staff can wear symbols of Christmas, say a sprig of holly or a piece of tinsel, it will all add to the festive feel of the place.

Along with that try to allow for each front of house staff to take time to have a few words with their tables. This will form a more personal relationship with each client and goes a long way to promoting repeat visits.

Ensure prompt service from the kitchen

In the run up to Christmas, make sure that the kitchen extraction system has been checked thoroughly and cleaned to ensure a comfortable environment for the kitchen staff. The result will be that they will be able to produce and deliver the meals efficiently and most important of all, promptly.

Here is a short check list:

  • To maximise the value and profitability of the Christmas season to your business here is a short check list.
  • If the extraction system was checked over 6 months ago it needs checking now.
  • Do you have an Airteck G64 installed in your ducting to eliminate odours escaping and creating bad feeling with your neighbours?
  • Now that the weather is deteriorating can you air input system cope without having any doors or windows open?
  • If your dishwasher makes the kitchen environment hot, humid and uncomfortable consider fitting a condense hood.
  • Is the gas interlock working properly?
